I designed and knit this little sweater with simple classic lines that show off the lovely handspun texture in the yarn. Please take note of the subtle cable running up the raglan shaping.
It is intended to be passed on through the years for generations without ever going out of style. Either of these handknit baby sweater will make a very special heirloom gift for any baby and will look equally stunning on a baby boy or baby girl.

The Red Sweater:
The beautiful red heather yarn was handspun specifically for this sweater. It is spun from a combed top, a blend of Silk and Merino wool from Louet Sales that I have un-stashed for this special hoodie.
This blend of Merino Wool and Silk makes a fabulous yarn with lots of texture both visually and to the touch. It has lovely spring and softness from the wool while the silk adds it own unique characteristic such as shine, luxury and strength to the yarn.
The Blue Spruce Sweater: now SOLD
The beautiful soft and fluffy yarn was handspun specifically for this sweater. It was blended by hand on a small roving carder or hand cards in a blend of 50/50 each of Merino wool and Angora.
I spun it on my Louet S45 spinning wheel in a balance 2 ply worsted weight yarn.
It has so much bounce, warmth and softness from the Merino wool with the added warmth factor of Angora as well as the lovely halo effect.
I have a my own technique for further preparing this top for handspinning, then I take it in to my spinning wheel and listen to an audio book while I spin it up. It take a bit of patience and dexterity to hand spin a fine and well balanced yarn. A trendy and funky or bumpy yarn will look great for a season and can be fairly easily accomplished by a beginning spinner but for an heirloom quality handknit I prefer and carefully balanced hand spun yarn with a much higher degree of integrity and just enough variety in the thickness to give the finished design that very expensive high-end Handspun look.
Once I have 2 bobbins full I go back and “ply” them together. Most of my handspun yarns have 2 plies.
This original design is lovingly and expertly hand knitted in the traditional fashion with great attention to detail. The lines are Simple, Classic and Timeless. Check out the little cable design that runs up the raglan armhole shaping.
Any baby will appreciate the luxurious warmth and softness of the wool and silk blend yarn, any mother will love the simple, classic lines and beautiful handspun yarn.
You will like it even better when you get it into your own hands.
A very special heirloom gift for any baby.
