This baby sweater is one of the samples that I knit while designing the knitting pattern.
I handknit this baby sweater from Louet’s wonderful Eastport Alpaca Yarn in Champagne. Eastport Alpaca is an ultra soft and perfect blend of Alpaca fiber & Merino for strength, warmth and durability. It has a simple overall stitch pattern with 3 little pewter buttons on the left shoulder for style and ease.
I designed this particular sweater with a baby boy in mind because it is so hard to find appropriate designs for little boys but it would look equally good on a little girl.
This piece is an heirloom classic which is intended to be passed on to the next generation without ever going out of style. It is very soft with a wonderful drape, a little luxury for a sweet baby.
- The sweater will fit a baby of approximately 6-12+ months.
- It measures 21 inches around and 11 inches in length.
The Yarn Eastport Alpaca
Eastport Alpaca is an ultra soft and perfect blend of 70/30 Alpaca fiber & Merino for strength, warmth and durability. Eastport Alpaca is a beautiful, soft, sturdy and warm yarn. Eastport is “home grown” with fiber coming from a collective of over 25 American family farms where the Alpaca’s are raised and the fiber harvested. The fiber collected is then pooled and sorted to create wonderful 70/30 Alpaca/Merino blend.
The town of Eastport is a small, remote fishing village located at the most eastern point in the United States. With its long, cold winters, Eastport offers a space and the time for fireplaces and hot chocolate to work on those projects that will be special and enduring. To my dismay this fiber is no longer available at my supplier but I do have a supply in my stash that should last for a while…. more about Alpaca
As with everything I knit this original design is lovingly and expertly hand knitted in the traditional fashion with great attention to detail. The lines are Simple, Classic and Timeless.
Any baby will appreciate the luxurious warmth and softness, any mother will love the simple, classic lines.
It really has such a lovely drape to it. You will like it even better when you get it into your own hands.
You can buy this design as a knitting pattern only or as a kit containing the knitting pattern and Alpaca yarn or you can order custom handspun yarn.
