Silk

A natural protein fiber, Silk is an all weather fiber, warm and cosy in winter and comfortably cool is spring and even summer. Because it is so fine silk can be worn as a second layer adding much warmth without the bulk or most other fabrics.
Silk is highly absorbent, able to absorb up to 30% of its weight in moisture without feeling damp. It is fine, durable and light comprised of very long lustrous fibers, giving it the notable shine and ultra smooth surface that has become known to us as silky.
In spite of its delicate appearance silk is extremely strong. The surface of the silk fabric resists soil and odors and has a natural fungal repellency. Silk is wrinkle and tear resistant, dries quickly and dyes beautifully with brilliant colours resulting.

Silk fabric was first developed in ancient China with some of the earliest examples found as early as 3500 BC. Originally reserved for royalty silk eventually made its way throughout the society and into other areas of Asia while still maintaining it luxury fabric status. Silk became so popular and trade so extensive that the major set of trade routes between Europe and Asia came to be known as the Silk Road.

Silk is easily laundered and following the label is recommended. Please use a gently wool wash such as “Soak”. Silk may be hand washed in lukewarm to cold water. Gently squeeze out excess moisture, roll in a towel to release more moisture and lay flat to dry away from direct heat and sun. Press carefully as required.
